8/20/2019 2 Comments Paws it!For a long time before I got used to them, making paws was once the bane of my existence. They still kind of are, but that's where a simple paw pattern comes into play! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ This is my basic flat paw pattern. You can choose to do the "5 fingy" version that this pattern also includes, but for this tutorial's purpose, we'll be making the 4 fingy paws, no stuffing,no lining, no claws. Below you can see the paw pattern! Bask in the glory of this absolute unit.
My method for this pattern is to trace the main shape onto the pieces of fur and cut out large squares. I then sew the paw pads on using the most popular method (pinning a sheet of minky onto the fur and machine sewing it, cutting around the parts where you've sewn). Then I pin all the pieces together, and sew them when they're still in square form. I leave about 1.5 inches of space at the ends unsewed for the cuff lining. Finally, I use my detail scissors and cut the excess fabric around the paw tracing on both sides. Make sure to leave 1/4 inch of seam allowance when trimming the fabric. You can also trim the fur that sticks out too. To make the paws extra strong, use a small and close zig zag stitch on your sewing machine to really secure your seams. Cut a 2.5x10 inch piece of your cuff fabric of choice (lycra, cotton, fleece, or minky will do) and pin around the edge of the paw. Sew with a short straight stitch and when you reach the end, back stitch a few times. You can now turn your paws inside out and gingerly brush the seams. Your paws should be finished! The full resolution of the pattern is available for download here. When you print it out, it will be ready to cut and use, no sizing needed! Have questions? Comment down below!
